Early Life and Childhood

Tony Maisey was raised in South London during a turbulent period marked by instability and hardship. His childhood changed dramatically at the age of eleven when his parents separated. Following the breakdown of the family unit, Tony’s mother entered a relationship with a violent figure connected to London’s criminal underworld. This environment exposed Tony to crime, alcohol abuse, drugs, violence, and domestic turmoil at a formative age.

"I didn't go to the field to bring people something I had. I went to find out what I was missing."

The chaos surrounding him deeply affected his development. As instability grew within the home, Tony lost interest in education and discipline. Like many young men searching for identity and belonging amid dysfunction, he began gravitating toward the same destructive lifestyle that surrounded him. The absence of stability and positive guidance pushed him further into rebellion and criminal behaviour.

The Journey into Crime

Descent into Crime and the Underworld

By the age of twenty, Tony had already entered the criminal justice system and was released from prison after serving time for burglary. However, rather than deterring him, prison became a gateway into deeper criminal involvement. Over the next two decades, Tony became immersed in organised crime, particularly within drug distribution networks.
As he climbed the ranks of the criminal underworld, Tony experienced the apparent rewards that often accompany illicit success — money, influence, excitement, and status. Yet beneath the surface was a life increasingly consumed by addiction, violence, paranoia, and spiritual emptiness. The pursuit of power and pleasure slowly eroded his emotional, mental, and spiritual wellbeing.
His story reflects a recurring reality found within organised crime: outward success masking inward collapse. Though Tony had attained much of what he once believed would fulfil him, internally he was deteriorating.

The Journey into Addiction

Addiction, Isolation, and Mental Collapse

By the age of forty, Tony’s life had reached its lowest point. Isolated, suicidal, and addicted to drugs and alcohol, he found himself living alone in a caravan, mentally and emotionally broken. Despite years of criminal success, he was left with nothing meaningful or lasting.

"I had it all, but in reality I had nothing..."

This period marked the complete collapse of the identity he had built throughout his life. The criminal empire, reputation, and lifestyle that once defined him could no longer protect him from despair. Tony has often described this season as a moment of absolute hopelessness.

His battle was not only external but profoundly internal. Addiction had taken hold, relationships had deteriorated, and he was overwhelmed by depression and thoughts of suicide. It was within this darkness that Tony began searching desperately for healing and meaning.

The Journey into the Amazon

The Amazon Journey and Spiritual Awakening

In his search for recovery, Tony heard about a powerful psychedelic brew used by indigenous Amazonian tribes during spiritual ceremonies. Believing it might offer emotional healing and a fresh start, he travelled to the Amazon rainforest to participate in these rituals.

What he expected to be a path toward enlightenment instead became the beginning of a terrifying spiritual experience. Tony later described feeling as though he had opened himself to a hostile spiritual realm that plunged him into years of fear, torment, and psychological suffering.

Upon returning to London, he endured what he describes as intense demonic oppression and spiritual attacks for approximately three years. These experiences deeply shaped his worldview and eventually became central to his Christian testimony.

Though controversial to some, Tony speaks openly about these experiences as part of his spiritual transformation and warning against dangerous occult and psychedelic practices.

The Journey into Faith

Encounter with Faith and Christianity

At the height of his despair, Tony experienced what he describes as a life-changing vision. One night, he saw a man praying for him while wearing a crown of thorns. Instinctively, Tony recognised the figure as Jesus Christ and became convinced that a battle was taking place for his soul.

At the time, Tony had little knowledge of Christianity and knew no Christians personally. Unsure where to turn, he began reading the Bible independently. Drawn by a deep spiritual hunger, he travelled to Israel and was baptised in the River Jordan, hoping to encounter the truth he sensed was calling him.

However, Tony later acknowledged that although he had taken religious steps outwardly, inward transformation had not yet fully occurred. He returned to England still struggling with drugs, sexual immorality, and unresolved spiritual conflict.

The Journey to Transformation

Deliverance, Repentance, and Transformation

Eventually, the spiritual and emotional torment became so severe that Tony sought help from a Christian healing and deliverance ministry. He entered a nine-day retreat where he was taught the biblical principles of repentance, surrender, forgiveness, and spiritual freedom through Jesus Christ.

This experience became the turning point of his life. Tony describes undergoing a powerful deliverance process in which years of addiction, trauma, spiritual oppression, and destructive behaviours began to break. Through prayer, counselling, and faith, he experienced what he believes was profound healing and restoration.

The years that followed became a season of continued healing, discipleship, and spiritual growth. Rather than returning to his former life, Tony committed himself fully to Christianity and began rebuilding his life around faith, service, and truth.

The Journey into Ministry

Ministry, Public Speaking, and Helping Others

Since 2018, Tony Maisey has travelled internationally sharing his testimony and the message of Jesus Christ. His story resonates with people from many different backgrounds — including those struggling with addiction, crime, trauma, occult involvement, mental health challenges, and spiritual confusion.

Tony now dedicates much of his life to counselling, prayer ministry, healing, and deliverance work. His honesty about his past allows him to connect authentically with individuals who feel hopeless or trapped by destructive lifestyles. Many are drawn to the dramatic contrast between his former identity as a hardened criminal and his present role as a compassionate minister and advocate for transformation.

His ministry emphasises themes of redemption, repentance, spiritual warfare, freedom from addiction, and the power of faith to restore broken lives.

Author and Legacy

Tony documented his remarkable life story in his book Inside War: From the Jungle to the Jordan, published by Bridge Logos Publishers. The book chronicles his journey through crime, addiction, the Amazon, spiritual encounters, and his eventual conversion to Christianity.

More than simply a memoir, the book serves as both a warning and a testimony — illustrating the dangers of destructive lifestyles while offering hope for redemption and healing. Through his writing and public ministry, Tony seeks to demonstrate that no life is beyond restoration.
